My books

My best known book is Cultures and Organizations 2nd ed (2005) by Geert and me. It has been translated in a number of languages; see www.geerthofstede.com.

My current project is a book with the working title "How to survive in a multinational?" that I am undertaking in conjunction with in-company training. It will contain numerous first-hand accounts of intercultural experiences. To appear in 2009.

Recent books in English:

bulletWhy do games work (2008). This is a book about why simulation games are such a powerful tool for learning. My fellow editors Léon de Caluwé and Vincent Peters and I invited twenty-odd leading practitioners of simulation gaming from around the world to give their view on this issue in a brief chapter. I am proud of the book. If you are a manager, HR manager, or consultant, this might be an inspiring book.
bullet Hide or confide, the dilemma of transparency (Reed Business, 2004), an edited book with case studies and with some clear ideas about what transparency in organizations can mean and about how its dynamics vary across societies. Not translated. Has been in reprint recently.
bullet Exploring Culture: exercises, stories, and synthetic cultures (2002). You could use this as an easy introduction to culture, or to create simulation games that include cross-cultural interactions. Also in Dutch and Bulgarian, Estonian and Slovene. The publisher, Intercultural Press, also has lots of other worthwhile books.
